Starting off on personal beliefs for Muhammad Ali, and why he did not feel like it was a good idea to fight in the war between the Vietnamese and the U.S. in the Vietnam War. One reason that Muhammad did not want to go into the army to fight in the Vietnam war was, that he had changed his religion to Islam. So he did not believe in fighting against people that did nothing to him here is a quote from him stating that fact."Shoot them for what they never called me nigger, they never lynched me,they didn't put no dogs on me,they didn't rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father,Shoot them for what? How can I shoot them poor people? just take me to jail" So even though he was standing up for himself there was several people that thought this was hurting them like first black Major league Baseball Player Jackie Robinson said,"He's hurting,I think, the morale of a lot of the young negro soldiers over in Vietnam" Jackie also said this,"And the tragedy to me is,Cassius has made millions of dollars off of the American republic, and now he's not willing to show his appreciation to a country that's giving him,in my view a fantastic opportunity" Which Ali did not think that at all.So what he thought about all Americans was why do they need to fight the "Vietcong" Him and some others felt as if the Vietnamese did nothing too the US so why should they be fighting or why did they have too?
